Elderly Women killed

An 80-year old widow was found murdered in a suspected robbery at her home in Outer Delhi’s Narela on Thursday morning, police said.

A case of murder has been registered at Narela police station.

Police said they received a call around 9.30 am from the neighbour of Shanti Devi, who has been living alone for the past nine years since her husband’s death.

“Her neighbours and relatives found her unconscious on the floor and noticed that her gold ornaments, including a nose ring, earrings and a gold pendant, were missing. They immediately called police. We are probing the robbery angle, but the woman’s purse inside a pajama pocket and other valuables in the house were untouched,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M A Rizvi said.

Initially, Devi’s relatives thought she died a natural death owing to her old age. They were getting ready for her last rites when somebody noticed strangulation marks and the missing ornaments, police said.

“Suspecting foul play, the informed us. The autopsy report has confirmed that the elderly woman died of strangulation,” a senior police officer said.
